Water Safety Reminder - Chasewater Open Water

We have received reports of people entering the open water at Chasewater.

While it may be tempting to cool off during warm weather, entering open water can be extremely dangerous. What may look safe from the shore can quickly become life-threatening due to:

Cold water shock, which can affect breathing and movement even on warm days.

Deep and uneven water depths.

Hidden hazards beneath the surface, including debris, rocks, and vegetation.

Strong currents and sudden drop-offs.

Difficulty getting out of the water safely once entered.

Entering the water can place not only those involved at risk, but also members of the emergency services who may be required to respond.

We are asking parents and guardians to speak with their children and young people about the dangers of swimming in open water and the importance of following safety signage around Chasewater.

If you witness anyone in difficulty in the water:

Call 999 immediately and ask for the Fire and Rescue Service.

Do not enter the water yourself.

If possible, encourage the person to float on their back and throw a lifesaving aid if one is available.

Let's work together to keep everyone safe and ensure Chasewater remains a safe place for the whole community to enjoy.
